6.5 Quake Hits Northern Taiwan

A strong 6.5 earthquake hit the offshore region in the northern part of Taiwan just before noon Sunday, no reports of injuries or building

damage. Seismologists have announced that the depth as well as the extent to which it was felt on the ground was extreme.

Earthquakes affect Taiwan because of the Eurasian and Philippine tectonic plates that converge along the east coast of the region.
